Wilmorton is situated between the old railway technical centre building on London Road and Alvaston Park, the housing is mainly terraced houses that were built to serve the sprawling railway industry.

Factoids

  • St Osmunds Church on London Road was consecrated in 1905 at a cost of £5,940

St Osmunds was designed by a local architect, Percival Currey, the brother of its first priest, Fr L Currey. It is a striking late Grade C listed Victorian Gothic building, the Vicarage and St Osmunds house are opposite on the right

Above and below is the Lakeside Community Primary School on London Road, originally built in 1892 as a Victorian Boarding School. The School is now embarking on a new chapter as it is relocating to a new site on Alvaston Park, originally the School was simply Wilmorton School and later merged with Southgate Infant School which then became known as Lakeside Community Primary School. The 1901 Wesleyan chapel above right was acquired by the School for it's expansion, below is the playground and below them are pictures showing the site for the new School on Alvaston Park

The Osmaston Methodist Sunday School on Taylor Street, the pictures below show various stone inscriptions found on the building

Above left is the former College of Railway Technology now known as Catalis Rail Training and above right is the YMCA building on London Road, the two pictures below are the houses and shops that front London Road

The Navigation Pub on London Road, built to serve the Canal that ran nearby, below is the Portland Hotel which was built in 1884
