Derby's new £340million shopping centre opened on Tuesday, 9th October 2007

Westfield Derby has more than one million square feet of pure, sparkling new shopping heaven for us all to enjoy and will put the city firmly on the country's retail map

Preparation of the foundations and ground works, taken May 2005, below are the before pictures taken on London Road

Westfield will feature an 800-seat food court called 'Eat Central' as well as a range of local independent and London-based eateries, which include Hamburger Union, Nincomsoup, Pieminister, Sumo Salad, Hana Puri, Pepitos, Yangtze Thai Noodle Bar, Yangtze Express, Pasta 4 U, Hey Potato, KFC, and Quiznos.

The centre will also feature Cinema da Lux - a 12-screen 'luxury' cinema.

The centre will incorporate 2,000 additional car parking spaces

The UK's largest indoor market, the Eagle Market, adjoins the centre. The market and Derby Playhouse (which is accessed through the market) were considered to be part of the centre when it was known as The Eagle Centre.

When the centre was expanded and renamed in 2007, the market which is owned by Derby City Council and not Westfield or Hermes, did not take on the new Westfield name; instead it slightly changed its name from the Eagle Centre Market to simply the Eagle Market and introduced its own branding, distinct from both the former Eagle Centre's and Westfield's, making itself distinct from the shopping centre for the first time.
