Monyash is a
quaint little village in the middle of the peak district, in
the centre of the village is the village green where most of
the houses are, along with the school, pub and small cafe,
serving the weary traveller. The dry stone walled fields
around the village are typical of the area, being constructed
of limestone.
In the 18th and
19th centuries, it became an important lead mining centre,
when most of the inhabitants were engaged in the dual
economics of farming and mining
St Leonards
Church was founded in 1198, although most of the church we see
now was restored in 1887 |
