Mackworth estate is a large council estate built in the 1950's. Mackworth Tertiary College dominates the top of the estate. The streets all have a London theme such
as, Knightsbridge, Mayfair Crescent, Edgware Road and such
like.
The other notable feature is the Seven Trent Water Tower which can be seen for miles
around.
Factoids

Three pubs cater for the needs
of the estate,
opposite on the right is the Woodpecker on Woodford Road, below left is the Bull and Bush
on Henley Green, and below right is the Kingsway Hotel on Brackensdale
Avenue. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Opposite is the second shopping
area on Humbleton
Drive.
The streets
are named after places in London, Hyde Park Road, Finchley Avenue, Greenwich
Drive etc, and below we have Derby's own Knightsbridge! |
| The estate also
has the biggest concentration of flat roofed houses in the City, most
probably built to mimic the art deco period |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Subtly painted flats
on
Hyde Park Road and just across from the shopping area on Prince Charles
Avenue |
|
A familiar site through the
estate is the College bus ferrying the students to and fro, from the
college |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Christ the King, Catholic Church
on Prince Charles Avenue opposite and below on Enfield Road is the Mackworth
United Reform Church |
|
The Arthur Neal care home on Hanwell
way, on the left of this previously stood the Lois Ellis care home, which was
demolished a few years ago, because the structure was deemed unsafe and as of
yet nothing has been done with the site |
