North of the
Cressbrook Mill, is Cressbrook Dale, sometimes referred to as
Ravensdale, which is the older name. A limestone dale with
numerous crags and remains of several lead mines.
The dale is also a wooded National Nature Reserve and the area
represents superb examples of all major wildlife habitats of
the White Peak Natural Area.
Peter's Stone, a large limestone outcrop, is a feature of
Cressbrook Dale, in the upper part. Peter's Stone is sometimes
said to liken St Peter's Basilica in Rome. |
