Bleaklow is the northern sister to Kinder,
joined to it by a neck of high land over
500 metres above sea level, over which pass the Snake Road and the old
Roman road of Doctor's Gate. It is an area of typical gritstone plateau.
Walking on Bleaklow is no place for a
casual Sunday hike, the peat moors of Bleaklow, are the Peaks’
most desolate landscape, Bleaklow means exactly what it says
and it is one of the bleakest areas in the Pennines.
This is a vast moor land with Bleaklow
Hill rising to over 2000 feet (610m). On a clear day, you can
see Snowdonia but within seconds the weather can change to a
complete whiteout with visibility of less than three feet |
