Five Lamps were an ornate wrought iron lamp standard cast by Messrs Weatherhead, Glover & Co from 1839, to improve traffic flow on the Cornmarket and St Peters bridge area, the lamps were transferred here in 1905

The five lamps lamp post, recently installed on this busy junction, opposite on the right this rather splendid building is the Five Lamps Nursing Home

Two views looking up Duffield Road towards the five lamps

The curved terrace block facing the junction, the ones on the right in the picture on the right are boarded up. Possibly waiting for demolition under the proposed alterations in the area

The Elms was built in 1880 by the Davenports later it became the home of the eminent surgeon William Ogle MDMA.  Shortly afterwards it became a preparatory branch of Derby School, Miss S N Askwith was the headmistress in charge, an advertisement in 1908 described the School as " The house is commodious and well situated and the sanitary arrangements are perfect"

On the left Five Lamps Pub, formally the St Helens
